Chest rigs are an essential tool to the serious MilSim player. A rig will generally not hold protective plates but can be worn over an existing carrier system. The chest rig itself may be donned and removed on a dime. For this reason, a chest rig will allow the player to easily transition from one role to another in a MilSim event.  A decent, well-made chest rig will greatly increase the functionality of any players MilSim loadout. Fortunately, you can purchase a quality chest rig for under 50 dollars. In this article, I reviewed 7 phenomenal chest rigs that will not break the bank.

The Condor Recon Chest Rig is a quality rig made by a great company. Condor is well known for making high-quality gear for an exceptional price. The Condor Recon Chest Rig comes with padded cross back shoulder straps with webbing and D-ring. The trademark Swivi-Lockster swivel push release buckles allow a 120-degree swivel. The sewn on pouches will hold up to 6 M4 mags and 6 to 8 pistol mags. The front pouch flaps can be removed. The side panels also have Molle for added attachments like IFAKs or more mag pouches. This one size fits all chest rig will hold most if not all of the gear that you will need, especially when you need to be quick on your feet.

The Rapdom Tactical Molle Chest Rig is a phenomenal chest rig. You will be hard pressed to find a more durable and well-made rig for the price. This rig comes with 6 pistol mag pouches, 2 concealed mag pouches, 3 double stack open mag pouches with bungee pull tab, and a removable kangaroo map pouch. The many pouches that this rig has are not removable, but you can add extra attachments on the ample Molle webbing located on the sides. The generous shoulder strap padding makes this a very comfortable rig to wear for long periods of time. And if you need to take it off, the quick release buckles make quick work of it. In short, for the price, this rig is almost unbeatable.

3. Condor Outdoor Rapid Assault Chest Rig

Once again, Condor knocks it out of the park with the Rapid Assault Chest Rig. This rig evenly distributes weight across your back and shoulders when carrying lots of heavy gear. The back-straps are heavily padded for comfort. This rig will hold 6 M4 mags comfortably in an open top system, with mags held in place by an efficient bungee release system. Although, the M4 mags will stay in place without bungee as the fit is quite snug. The rig also features extensive molle throughout with plenty of space for pouches and attachments. This rig fits nice and snug and is very durable.

The GLORYFIRE Tactical Chest Rig is a superbly made chest rig. This rig features six open-top m4 mag pouches with bungee retainers. It also has a front pocket pouch with hook and loop panel and an additional mesh pocket for documents. Much like the Condor Chest Rig, the entire front is set up with Molle webbing for additional attachments. The cross-back shoulder straps have ample padding making this a very comfortable rig to wear. This rig is made of 1000d mil-spec nylon and the stitching and overall craftsmanship is of the highest quality. You will be hard pressed to find a better chest rig at a lower price.

5. VISM by NcStar AK Chest Rig

For those players who prefer to run the AK47 platform, this chest rig cannot be beaten! The VISM by NcStar AK Chest Rig has plenty of space to accommodate up to six AK 47 magazines and so much more. The 3 double mag pouches are open top with bungee retention. The rig has two large side pouches that can hold plenty of peripherals like smoke grenades or extra bbs. There is also a central chest compartment with button snaps with plenty of space for maps, documents, and even a sidearm. This chest rig is a must have for any player running an AK47 during MilSim events.

6. Loaded Gear VX-400 Tactical Chest Rig

The Loaded Gear VX-400 Tactical Chest Rig is made by Barska, a company well known for making quality optics. This rig comes with 3 dual mag punches with bungee retainers. The shoulder straps have plenty of padding throughout. There are 4 pistol mag pouches and an extra pouch located front and center. Although the Nylon is 600D, it is still well made and durable. The attached pouches are not removable, none the less, the rig comes with plenty of Molle on the sides for attachments. The front sleeve will also accommodate an 8-43/64″ x 7-7/8″  plate which may create a sturdier platform.  Overall, this rig is well built and comparable to the Condor Recon Chest Rig.

7. VISM by NcStar Ultimate Chest Rig

The VISM by NcStar Ultimate Chest Rig is a well-made budget chest rig with features usually found in more expensive rigs. Unlike most other rigs, this rig has 4 double mag pouches, accommodating up to 8 M4 magazines. The front pouches will not fit double stack magazines but will accommodate single stack magazines. You can utilize these pouches for other peripherals like glow sticks, AEG batteries, etc. There are 2 larger pouches on either side of the rig that will accommodate gear like radios, extra ammo, water bottles, etc.  The shoulder strap padding is light, but they are still quite comfortable. This rig is a very understated, yet effective option.
